A Long Absence

It has been over a year since I have posted to my blog. Not all of it was my fault. Last December Central Illinois had an ice storm that left our small town without power for a few days and because of that my pipes burst. Now the interesting thing to note is that the last remodeler had the bright idea to run the water lines up to the attic and across the house, thus causing the ceilings to all collapse and destroy the entire downstairs.

So the last year all my spare time has been spent gutting the house and starting over. During the year I officially lost my job of 20 years as well. I have been using the last 3 months to catch up on the house before winter hit.

Now that the Holidays are over and a new year begun, I have decided to start doing my art again. Here is my first piece since my last post. It is 5 x 7 and done in colored pencil on stonehenge paper. It is my good friend and his son after they won the area tournament. My wife caught the moment perfectly and I have wanted to draw it for some time.

I hope to create a new drawing at least once a week for the next year. Next I will be working on some people from our town mixed with some other stuff. I promise to make every effort possible to post regularly this year.

Thanks for looking.

Having just started studying figure drawing, I have a whole new level of appreciation for the skill it takes to capture such a moment. But capture it you have -- a great reintroduction to your art. Glad you're back.

Stay absent Steve. You owe me several thousand dollars. Supposedly you were going to pay me back. Instead, you vanished. Not exactly Tevye-like behavior. I know you will delete this comment and “forget” again. I behaved honorably and generously, and I wanted to believe your hard-luck stories, which you are likely still concocting by using this blog. I won’t read it. Lesson learned. Only legitimate charity for me since you fleeced me. Congratulations on getting away with it.
